This article does not promote the use of Cannabis blindly. Please consult your physician appropriately to understand your individual scenario. And abide accordingly to your local laws by understanding the given legalities, as it varies according to your district. As Cannabis is legal in some countries like Canada and allowed in certain parts of the United States like California, but illegal in Ohio for recreational use at the time of making this video. Now on with the exploration of this topic.
A Lot of people do not know that Cannabis and Yoga go hand and hand. In fact once upon a time they actually were used together. As the combination of the two can be used effectively for Spiritual enhancement. As originally the purpose of Yoga was meant for a union with the divine and Spiritual realization. And having a flexible body was a beneficial side effect. As Yoga was meant to activate the subtle energy systems of Prana and the Chakras. Preparing the body for meditation.
Cannabis ingestion alone has also had a history of being used for spiritual purposes. In ancient India Cannabis was mixed with other properties to create a drink called Soma to induce psychedelic experiences. Which served as the inspiration for many of the Hindu myths and connection with the gods.
And it is believed by many the founder of yoga was the Hindu god shiva. Who once was believed to be a man that walked the earth thousands of years ago and channeled the spirit of Shiva. Similar to how the Indian Prince Siddhartha Gautama left his Royal court life and became an ascetic, eventually becoming the Buddha. Channeling the spirit of the Buddhi nature, which means the awakened one. And Shiva was a regular user of Cannabis and it might in fact be how he built awareness of the body for the Asana postures.
There is no doubt that Cannabis leads to altered states of consciousness for better or worse. To keep on the better side of mental cognition is a matter of practice and learning to manage usage accordingly to your limits. Having said that it is very difficult to overdose on Cannabis, so it is a relatively safe herbal plant made from nature. With the altered consciousness it enables you to be more sensitive to stimulus and perceive things that you wouldn’t otherwise feel or see.
Combined with yoga it allows you to actually feel the subtle energy body of the chakras and not just the muscles and tendons. And because Cannabis is a great muscle relaxant and anti inflammatory, it allows you to comfortably get into deeper stretches. Leaving your body feeling incredibly relaxed the next day.
Cannabis is a mental amplifier, so it allows you to focus on subjects and objects more intensely. Used recreationally this can be a problem since people can often go on a Tangent on a worrying thought and get into a trap of paranoia. However with meditation, there is the focus on the breath or a mantra and it can allow deeper states of consciousness, clarity and compassion.
In terms of consumption of Cannabis, the 3 ways of consuming are Smoking, Vaping and Eating. Smoking and Vaping can have the quickest effect and take place within minutes. But wear off quicker after a few hours. Whereas eating is the most potent method and has a deeper and different effect on the body being consumed via the liver. However it takes longer for it to take effect. As it can be anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours and can last much longer trailing with some effects even to the next day. So please exercise caution with Edible Cannabis as it is probably best to only explore this route if you are acclimatized with the effects from smoking Cannabis first. Having said that, eating Cannabis can be a healthier option in the end since it bypasses the worrying on the unknown effects from smoking.
End of the day the combination of Yoga and cannabis is merely one tool out of many for spiritual enhancement. You can certainly progress alone with the practice of Yoga and Meditation singularly which has innumerable benefits. And while the two can be a powerful combination, as with anything powerful, one has to exercise caution and care. So please do so selectively if you choose this route and make sure not to overdo too much of a good thing.
